This is such a great question! Sex shouldn't effect counseling but I think it does a great deal. Especially in this kind of situation where it's pretty much a male vs female thing. I think that you should do some research and just pick one that you think is qualified to help you guys out. If one doesn't seem to work out, just switch. I think the most important thing is to find someone that you're both comfortable with. Good luck!

If you go to a marriage counseling, ask if they can let you see a female and a male, see if they can give you different opinions, cause the opposite sex of each side seems to be able to tell whats what!

Male. My mother and step father went to a female marriage counselor and the woman ended up falling for my step dad and everything my mother said was wrong.

The sex of the counselor doesn't matter, you need to talk to a few different counselors until you find someone that you're both comfortable with. It won't get you anywhere if one of you is not comfortable with the counselor. Relatioships take two people, not one.

The sex doesn't matter. Just the FIT. Ask around if you can. I've had good female counsellors and some I hoped I'd never see again. Same for males.

It really doesn't matter all they do is listen to the both of you and make some recommendations that they think will be help full to your marriage.

I don't see why that would matter. How about a christian counselor who has been doing that more than a minute?

If it was your husband who suggested it 1st, then I wouldn't worry about it much. Maybe you should decide which gender YOU would be able to relate to most easily.
