150 beats per minute is average. i've never heard of one being higher than the other. i asked my doc if he could tell the age of my fetus by the heart rate and he said no so i really doubt u could predict sex by it.

My mom will swear that it does, but my doctor will swear that it doesn't. My doctor says the heartbeat always changes, so you can never tell, but it seemed to work for all four of my mom's children and my neice. My mom says that girl's heartrates are 160 and above and boys are below 160. She says especially by the fourth month. However when it comes to me, it is not that clear cut. I am 16 weeks pregnant right now and the heartrate was 171 (very high), meaning it should be a girl. Then at my last appointment it went down to 158, so my mom now swears it is a boy, but says she won't be 100% positive until my upcomming dr appointment where heartbeats usually stay the same.
This whole heartrate thing is confusing. If this is true, maybe I am having a hermaphrodyte or something, because that's the only way the heartrate thing works for me I guess.
I think your best bet is to wait for the ultrasound, that is more of a reliable answer.

Yes sometimes girls run higher but you can't tell the sex of the fetus by just that and the normal heart rate is between 100 and 150 beats per minute

The heartbeat of a girl runs 160 or greater. The heartbeat of a boy is 140 or less....according to What to Expect When You Are Expecting.
