I've 2 youngsters. Those books do nothing for you except make you feel like a failure if your baby isn't on the right point of the graph at the right time. Your baby will be unique and have will do things in his own time and fashion. Do yourself a favour - don't buy a book. Instead, talk to other parents, especially your own. Good luck.

Babies sleep through the night when they are ready. No book is going to tell you when your child will sleep through the night.
Good books:
The Baby Book by Dr. Sears
Your Baby & Young Child, Birth to Age 5 by the AAP
The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by La Leche League will cover breastfeeding and weaning better than any other

I always found Miriam Stoppard books helpful but didn't agree with everything that she wrote. I think as a mum you have that instinct and that is the best way to get by. I found my Mum an invaluable source of information and still do and my little one is now 5. Would suggest asking an older relative who has been through it (or anyone else who you can easily talk to). Everyone has their own little hints and tips and not everything can be found in a manual.

There's a book which is called the contented baby can't remember who wrote it, but all the parents at my nursery read it and swear by it. Have a look on www.amazon.co.uk or try waterstones website. Good luck if you need any advice I'm a trained Nursery Nurse with 10 years experience so if you want help e-mail me!

GET DR SEARS book. ANYTHING by Dr. Sears is a valuable read!!! He got me through a lot for the whole first two years of my little one. Good luck!! (google search will pop his name right up. he has 9 kids and knows what he's talking about!)
Also try joining forums like on ivillage which are related to new parents, etc. Good info there, too. :-)

i have no book to recommend but besides books which, yes, can be helpful use your instincts in what you know is for your baby and what your baby likes. cuz books can only give you an idea cuz no baby is exactly alike.
