Somone asked me this question last night during the NLCS and I wasn't sure, so......maybe all you Yahooligans can help me out. Thanks!
We all know Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby were the first African American position players in each league, but who were the first African American pitchers in each league?

Dan Bankhead (Brooklyn) in the NL & Satchel Paige (Cleveland) in teh AL. I knew they were for the same teams as Robinson & Doby but always thought it was Don Newcombe in the NL until I looked it up to make sure.

I always thought it was Don Newcombe in the NL, too. I loved
Satchel's book "Don't Look Back, Something Might be Gaining On
You" and he pitched in 1965 with the Kansas City A's for 3 innings and later in 1969 he pitched with the Braves in Spring
Training.
