When you really think about it, isn't it always the ones who feel some need to conform or do not think for themselves have the compulsion to join up?? That goes for any organization including fraternities/sororities, cliques, "special interest" groups, etc.

To the equally "mindless" Goose and Tonic you just proved my point and answered my question! Notice that she mentioned "like-mindedness" and that's exactly what my question was driving at! What ever happens to individuality and independent thought??? She clearly fits the "mold"...

"No. I find this question to be asked by a mindless person though.

People join the millitary, frats, groups etc for a variety of reasons, including, but not limited to:

-- education
-- self-improvement
-- financial opportunities (military especially)
-- careers/futures
-- a desire to be with like-minded people
-- a desire to do good around the world
-- an interest in something other than themselves...."

Yes, in some cases I think people join to prove themselves. My brother in his young adult life felt like all he did was screw up and tried to impress everyone in my family by joining the military, since all of my relatives were enrolled themselves??? It was so unlike him, but he felt he needed to impress other people? I think the same goes for fraternities and sororities...not all cases, but some. People need to feel important.

Not necessarily. Some people see the military as an option for getting a college education and vocational skills at the same time.
The military does have good programs for providing college education.

However, a lot of the time when I see a video clip from inside a tank or battleship of America launching a projectile at someone, a guy in southern accent said he likes being in the military so he can kick someone's a*s...

wow that is harsh. some join sometimes out of necessity in their eyes. they can't afford an education after high school so they join to get an education payed by the government. I don't know I am just shooting from the hip. i didn't join much groups except the "Star Wars club" and nerdy s h i t like that.

Not all of them are mindless or aimless. Many are young patriots who want to serve their country. As a plus, they get the discipline they need to succeed in life even after they return to private life.

Yes! Mindless/ Aimless people are given a chance to create meaning in their lives. They are able to find a structure that most ADD people do well under.
actually know people who were goofs until they joined and now seem to be doing quite well.

Mindless:

If they were mindless they would not think of protecting the peoples of their mother land.

Aimless:

If they had no aim in their lives they would be wandering in the streets or near girls colleges or whore houses for some enjoyment.

MINDED:

They have minds and use thier minds as to how to protect their mother land and save the lives of those unknown and unfamiliar brothers and sisters.

A Definite AIM:

They have a Definite Aim: We have to establish and maintain peace and order inside our nation.

Yep, my friend who will be a complete failure in life said that he is joining the armed reserve. I know he is just doing it because he knows his marks aren't good enough to get him into universtiy.

Aimless people? I thank God for every American soldier, male and female. You get to sleep safely in your bed at night thanks to them. I think those "mindless, aimless" soldiers ought to be allowed to put you through basic training and I think your attitude would change.
