It all depends on what it is the friend needs. I would help my friends with anything I can, as long as I'm not helping them cover up a serious crime or doing something illegal.

Sorry to say but in todays world you would be foolish to lend a freind money. Do almost anything else for them but not that. If it's more than you can afford as a gift then don't give it.
REMEMBER
'Niether a borrower nor a lender be!'

Depends on the friend and the situation. If I trust someone, I can even borrow a large amount of money. And I have never done wrong. I would lie but... it all depends. Would I lie for my anorexic friend telling to her mum that of course she's eating a lot? NO.

You are too ambiguous in your question. Lie for them about what? Did they murder, rape, steal, what? VERY few things I would lie for, or about. Lend them money. No, I would give them what I could. Lending is only a way to make a slave of another.

Consider that a true friend would not make a liar out of you but would have enough respect for you to have you maintain your dignity and your moral standings... unless, of course, your friend knows you to be a liar and telling another lie means nothing to you. Friends do not make you do dishonest things, or you'd be just another dishonest person not worthy of trust or credibility. Lending money to friends is paying them to leave you alone... they disappear rather than pay back... you get to know who your friends are... they enjoy THEIR money and then want to enjoy YOUR money, too? What kind of person is that if not a selfish, self-centered individual...? You're better off not knowing these individuals that try to pass off as friends! Otherwise, is that ALL you're good for... to help them out of problems they get themselves in (not willing to face their responsibilities), spending their money and yours,too... making you lie for them (which makes you nothing more than a liar in their eyes and in the eyes of everyone else that refused to lie for them)?

I will gladly go to the aid of some friends and will not wait for them to humiliate themselves by asking for help... I help them keep their dignity but, of course, those are very friends that I'd do that for... the others are more or less acquaintances and they're on their own (no help from me whatsoever... I don't get bitten twice by the same dog!)

I've never lied for my buddy of 43 years, and he's never lied for me, either. We've come to the aid of one another on many occasions and we've never had issues of money debts or anything remotely related to that. Why? We respect our FRIENDSHIP and we respect one another too much. I do not consider anything I do for my best friend as a sacrifice but moreso of an HONOR to help him or his (grown) children; I would not let him go to someone else if I can assist him personally. How far would I go to help him? I would give him one of my lungs or kidneys without hesitation if he needed one!

All I can do. Friends are people like you and me, so if you were in the same situation you would like to have an unconditional friend.

No way, my friends are too selfish to do that for anyone else so why should I be there for them.
