Sorry, but I don't know what the term "Indirect" chat means. I know that all the Instant Messengers have some form of offline message ability, in which the person you want to contact and chat with is not Online currently and so the messege you send will be received the next time they log onto the computer. The only thing a Direct chat can be is when both are Online and chatting via an Instant Messenger software program.

Now, Online card catalogs and Online reference work are just forms of information complilations. I suppose Online reference work could be a lot of different things, such as referring people to services, repair technicians, groups, newsgroups, and many other forms of web activities.

Why not just Goggle these items and see what you come up with? Well, there seems to be nothing on indirect chat, so I assume this means it is not a real term. Even Wikepedia does not have an entry for indirect chat. So, I suppose you can say indirect chat is a nothing. It does not exist as anything searchable, so it does not exist, at least Online. Anything that has to do with the web, can be found on the web, from creating webpages, using HTML, to a copy paste transaction. If it is not listed, then it does not exist as a web related item.

Now, an Online Card Catalog is an Online Library Card Catalog of books and other reference materail. I would then suppose that Online Reference work would be simular in context, as in an Online Reference Material avialable at a library or Online library.
