I think it's the most beautiful country in the world. The people are warm and friendly. The culture is so magnetic and vibrant. The cities are alive with passion. It's hard not to want to be a part of it. The mountains and beaches play hosts to clear waters , warm sands and beautiful fauna and flora. It makes one want to praise God and thank Him for placing his hand on the country and blessing it with beauty.

I do believe it is a garden of opportunity. We need to nourish and water the potential. And as with gardens, there are some weeds that needs to be taken out by the roots. South Africa's weeds being crime and AIDS at this point. But I do believe that the people of the Rainbow Nation can do wonders. Just look at the struggles they've already endured. How they rose above it all and claimed their freedom!

I love this country so much it hurts when I speak of it, because I'm not there to be a part of it. I live in Korea and only go home once a year. But the one month I do get to go home refreshes me in such a way that the other 11 months fly by so quickly.

They talk so much about crime and so over here, but it's just fascinating that I have never witnessed a crime in my life... no murders, robberies, etc. Guess I'm just lucky then. I happen to be surrounded by a black township and a native one. I see them riding their bikes to work every morning when I go to school. I greet them with a friendly smile and they greet back. Maybe it's just you people in that Gauteng place who are too stuck up to realise the real truth. All countries have crime and murders and all that crap, so stop exaggerating ours. Yes, maybe it's a little bit too much, but heck, I'm going to go into depression if someone tells me that one more time. Gosh, who understands those Gauteng people anyway.

Besides all the crime in our country I am still and will always be proud of being South African. We might be slow in healing and dirt poor but to me we are still the most beautiful country. Nowhere in the world in their a more beautiful place than Cape Town.

Proudly South African

I live in the US. My view of South Africa is that you are a nation still coming to grips with a complete cultural change. I realize that there are still a lot of problems you are facing. S Africa appears to be a nation that is really trying to come to grips with the internal problem it has though. Hang in there, S Africa looks to a lot of us like a nation that is going to persevere.

SOUTH AFRICA USED TO BE A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY THAT
WE VISITED A FEW TIMES IN THE EARLY NINETIES BUT IT
IS NOT SAFE TO GO THERE AND EVERYONE RATES IT AS
A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY ANYWAY , WE AMERICANS
CAN'T DO BUSINESS WITH A COUNTRY THAT ACCEPTS AND PROMOTES RACISM AND HATE CRIMES LIKE ZIM AND SA. IT IS STILL NICE TO SEE PICTURES OF CAPE AND DURBAN.

Every so often I see the same question on here, my life is troubled enough where S. Africa is in my thoughts, but far down there in priority. I think you're on your own. Best of wishes.

I saw a Discovery Channel episode where S. Africans took a foriegn business leader hostage for a ransom. When no one came thru on the ransom, they threw him off a bridge into some water, and took a machine gun and shot him in the water....

Sounds like a dangerous place.

I think it is a country that is recovering and it takes time to do that. I was there a few years back on vacation and loved it. yes, there is still a lot of poverty and racism, but the country needs time to heal. It is so beautiful though. You have a lot to be proud of.
