the only one that I've liked so far was Resident Evil, and even that wasn't exactly a great movie. I think the problem is that producers believe that they will have a built-in audience based on name recognition, and thus don't push writers to develop a good script, or push directors to keep the seams tight, lots of the actors sort of 'phone in' their performances, etc.
The problem is that everybody involved seems to just see the film as a moneymaker - tie in, and don't really give their heart and soul. Nobody's shooting for an oscar with these films.

I think the other answerers misunderstood the question. I would recommend Stay Alive but you've already put that. As for other suggestions I'm sorry but I can't think of any off the top of my head. If you did mean include films based on video games it'll be a very very short list. I doubt there's one great one. But watchable ones (for me at least) include Max Payne, and the first 2 Resident Evil films.

There good if they get the story right. Resident Evil & Silent Hill are really good movies based on games. Tomb Raider was O.K. Bloodrayne sucked along with Doom.

They are not always my favorite, usually ranked at the very bottom. However, one game that I do give a "thumbs up" to is Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 the video games based on the movie.

I have not seen one video game based movie that was any good.
Silent Hill - sucked so bad
Resident Evil - Pluuueeessse
Tomb Raider - even Mrs. Jolie couldn't make it a good movie
Mortal Combat - Could it have been any cheesier
the list goes on.............but so far......not a single one of them even worth a rental.

Mortal Combat was just cheesy.
Tomb Raider(s) i never saw....no need to watch Angelia run around in skin tight outfits.
Silent Hill was just boring, slow, and there are tooo many unanswered questions in the end.....And it barely followed the game.
However, I LOVED Resident Evil(s). I know they really barely follow the games, but they were cool anyhow.

Yeah, they are usually very bad. But I liked Tomb Raider for two reasons:
First: ANGELINA JOLIE!
Second: Am a BIG fan of the game.
