I agree with you that we adapt to our surroundings Simon K, but do you consider tracking a dear to be a sophisticated thing to do, even if it is clever?

I consider that to be a thought provoking argument brainlady, I think sophistication requires an act of balance and we could get it wrong.

I think humans are as sophisticated as they can be in the environment that they live. For example the indigenous inhabitants of the kalahari desert are able to survive by their ability to read and interact with their surroundings. They can do it far better than the average UK citizen.
We are the same but we have different environment to interact with ...we are more concerned with computers, trains, lipstick, etc. We don't need to be able to track an animal in the desert.

Yes I consider tracking a deer to be as sophisticated as the things we do in the west. What do you mean by sophisticated?

We will probably think we are more sophisticated as technology becomes more and more part of our lives. I can see Tescos doing self service plastic surgery, ivf on tap and as we live longer and the world gets over populated, no doubt Richard Branson will take over space and sell it back to us under the Virgin Brand!
More and more gadgets and gizmos- yes. Sophisticated? Perhaps not. Less and less appreciative of the natural world- probably.
