"brunette" has the right idea.

There was a Singer Sewing Machine in my family until the mid-1970's. It was probably manufactured before 1900. It was powered by the person who used it. My grandmother used it weekly until about 6 months before she died.

The thing about those Singer machines was that they were made so well that they didn't break. So as long as people would continue to use the treadle, they worked. Some of them were altered, when small electric motors became available. Some of them were thrown out, when people wanted the more complicated stitching that the newer models had.

So as long as people didn't throw them out, you will find out that there is a big supply of the machines, which will bring the price down. The value will go up based on whether the machine still has all of the original parts, and whether the box around the machine is the original.
