Can you find out someone's name by looking up their tag number on the internet? Or is there a number in Mississippi to call and get their name by the tag number?

If it is a legal issue, you can give the police the plate number and they have access to look it up and pursue that person for whatever you need. If it is an ex or a personal issue, there are not any means that I am aware of to gain this information, unless you know someone that works at the DMV.

A lot of state DMV's have the license plate information protected. There are thousands of legal issues that can arise with publishing this information, so many states have protected that information. Now if your good friends with a cop (Who could also get in to a lot of trouble by giving out this information) who is willing to look it up for you, then you could find out. But my experience is the information is protected and will not be given out.

I know in Texas if you have a good reason you can get the name and address from the Tax Collector's office in the county. Had to fill out a form, but the reason was the car ran into me and left the scene.
