Actually, tungsten carbide is a compound of carbon and tungsten. Tungsten is considered a heavy metal.

Yes, it contains one heavy metal - tungsten(actually a metallic element; look it up). It was used to be used in ww2 because of it's extreme density and weight. It could punch through steel more easily. If you add other atoms/molecules to it, then it just becomes heavier. Not sure about toxicity.
