You continue to eat during your illness, matching your appetite. During a bout of illness, the bout is between the virus (as in a cold) and your body. Not having proper meals can lower your resistance and therefore can provide advantage to the virus, which obviously one wouldn’t like. Therefore continue having a balanced diet. There are only a few specific illnesses where food is forbidden, which a doctor usually tells.

Well, they say "feed a cold, starve a fever," but my family's Italian so we just feed everything! I find, however, that when I have a cold I'm not hungry anyway because I can't smell or taste food, so it makes me not want to eat. You should try spicy foods like green chile enchiladas or burritos, which can help clear up your sinuses, and don't forget good old chicken soup!
