My parents got a job in Richmond, Virginia, so we are moving down soon. Im worried the kids in my classes are going to make fun of my because I'm from Canada or something?
Also in the US are Canadian teens and American teens alike? I mean, is there the usual goths, punks, preps, jocks, bullies, nerds, dumb blondes, etc, in the schools?

We live very near the Canadian border, in Washington State. About 10% of our students are canadian citizens. One of last years valadictorians was a Canadian citizen as well.
In Richmond the kids won't be as used to Canadians. They won't KNOW much about Canada, to be honest, so most won't even know you're Canadian unless you tell them. They might be able to tell by the way you speak (that "about" thing) but most likely not. And if they can tell, they tend to think that accents are neat.
Yeah, we have the same groups in school here that you do there. It's why Degrassi was such a hit in the USA.
Good luck! Don't be scared - you'll do fine.

Sure there will be those kind of people. There always is. Bullies make fun of people for a reaction. In the case of jocks and out and out bullies you are incidental. They are just bonding with each other. More subtle bullying is to have fun at your expense and make themselves feel better in the process, or just to have a laugh.
If you are very sensitive, and judging by your question, you are, then you must remember why the kids will be doing this, and why you do it to other people.... come on now, you do it too.
Don't expect to drive into Richmond under a huge banner, "Richmond welcomes the new family from Canada.. we feel incomplete without you!!!!" You are going to be the object of curiosity for sure... for a while, there is nothing that you can do about that. Try to take things as they are given.. laugh with them... but not to the point of suckholing.

I moved to the states from Montreal. I never had any problems with people making fun. The teens are very similar in the US and Canada.

America is the same. No one should make fun of you. Teens here are alike to teens in Canada. If anyone at your new school makes fun of you, then they are just ignorant.

Of course they will make fun of you. That is what they do when someone is different from them. But, be yourself and it should be OK. Teens everywhere are alike. You will be fine.

You'll be fine, we are just as self-concious and nervous as you are. If anything, your newness will work in your favor. Just be yourself and the right people will get to know you.
