I live in a city where mexicans fly their country’s flag in their front yard. Now if mexico is so great you feel the need to tell everyone, what are you doing in California, and why aren’t you living in mexico?

I fly an Irish flag all year, because that's where I was born. For various reasons, mostly financial, I live in California and enjoy my life here, but that doesn't mean I don't love the place I was born.

I imagine something similar motivates the Mexican flags.

I think it is a matter of cultural pride. Just because they have more economic possibilities in the U.S. (which they clearly do) doesn't mean they shouldn't be proud of their heritage. I was born and raised here in the states and still have many things that represent my family's cultural history because I am proud of it.

Cultural pride. Don't take it personally. There are bigger things to worry about.
