Talk to your doctor about it. If your baby is just coughing, and almost seems to gag occasionally, then chances are they are congested. My daughter (8 months) occasionally gets coughing and then chokes/gags, causing her cereal to come up. After talking to her doctor, we figured out it was because she was congested in the mornings.

So, we did a couple of things. Use her nasal bulb (the nose sucker thing, lol) and remove any blockages in her nose. If she's breathing in heavily, she may get some drainage from her nose, causing the coughing.

If she's got a cough that won't go away, find some Dimetapp Infant Drops and give her the recommended dosage. It helps WONDERFULLY with colds and coughs.

I would still call the doctor and make an appointment though, just to be on the safe side.

At this age, it should only be milk or vomit. Sit the child upright and pat the back gently.

For an older child, where it may be a solid object, you lay the baby face down along your arm, head lower than stomach and pat the back to try and dislodge what ever is stuck in there.

For the last one, IT IS ESSENTIAL you seek medical help as soon as possible afterwards.

As long as there is coughing, there is air getting to the lungs. Relax and hold your baby in a slightly forward-leaning position so anything that gets coughed up won't get sucked right back down. If your baby STOPS coughing and breathing, then you'll need to do more.

I'd reccommend taking an infant CPR/ first aid course so you know for sure what to do and when. It's great for your peace of mind!

Go and take your child to the ER right at this moment and be a good mother. Get you a$$ up from the computer and leave now. Stop waisting time asking a stupid question. You should know this.
