They are mostly water. Try deep root watering: Drive PVC pipe into the ground around the drip line. Depth will depend on the size of the tree. You can then water and fertilize down the holes you made.

???? Don't understand, Lime trees grow Limes, and they are the fruit.........
I guess you mean the skin is thick?? It may be the type of lime tree that you own, some have rather thicker skins than others, same as some of the other Citrus Varieties like Lemons.
Make sure they have adequate water in fruiting months, fertilise with a specific fertiliser for Citrus plants.

How do you get huge limes with hardly any fruit, the huge lime is a fruit.
