I have this friend and she has headlice. she has a lot of nit eggs and a few nits. we have told her about them (because we thought it was the best to let her know) but she doesn't seem to have done anything about them for 3 or 4 weeks now and its getting annoying. i seriously DO not want to catch them so is there anything other than nit lotion i can put on my hair to stop me catching these little buggers? thanx.

My kids have had lice several times and twice I've caught it too. Many of the treatments don't work as the lice have become resistant to the chemicals.
The only way to be sure of getting rid of them is to use a very fine comb you can buy at any pharmacist. Boots have them for £3 http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1034474&classificationid=1035907 When conditioner is on the hair, the lice can't hold on and you can comb them out.
If your friend has lice, I recommend that you check yourself weekly - most people don't realise they have them until the infestation is severe. It's better to check yourself and catch the problem while it's not too bad.
Buy a comb for your friend too.

Hi other than making her get rid of the eggs in her hair whilst she is in your company. Nothing will stop you from catching head lice. When i was young i had this spray that smelt like marzepan and no matter clean or dirty i still got nits. But they have bought tea tree sprays out now that is suppose to repel them. But as long as she is around you then you will get them so i would make sure she gets rid of them.

As a Nurse working in unit where I have frequent contact with people with this problem, what I use is Escenti Tea Tree Childrens Head Lice Repellent Detangling Spray Regular Use which you can buy from Sainsbury's.
Hope you don't catch them :-0

Use a fine tooth comb when you have conditioner in your hair and tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner- add a couple of drops of the essential oil if you can't find it with it in already.
Why not suggest you help her, turn up with the ointment, she couldn't really say know. And it is quite a task if you have no one to help her, maybe that's what's putting her off. You could also ask her not to get to close to you until she's treated them. It depends on how she would take it, don't if it would really hurt her.

try buying her a nit comb. other than that if you've told her and she's not done anything about it yet it could be that she's a bit embarassed. just explain that you think you may have caught them and maybe she'll feel bad and get it sorted out. it's not a nice thing to do but if telling her about it hasn't done anything then how else will you get through to her !!

Yes stay far away from her and let her mother know she has them and hopefully her mo;m can do something for her.How old is she? If she is over 12 then she should be more responsible for herself and do something about it. If you cant get anybody to listen talk to your school nurse and maybe she can help her to get some shampoo to clear it up. Maybe the nurse can show her how. Good Luck and god bless.

Tea tree oil is supposed to be a repelant but don't rely on it 100% and it does smell quite strong. They do make a tea tree shampoo and conditioner too

lice hate hair dye. So if you can't or don't want to stay away from her dye your hair. Have you tried telling her how to get rid of them? maybe she doesn't know. There are alot of things to be done. Shampoo's, washing bedding and cloths in hot water and drying in dryer. Ask her to call a health unit they will explain how to get ride of them.

Oh heck, you really need to tell her again, or else you and the rest of your friends are going to end up with them, and they are really hard to get rid off,Tea Tree oil, shampoo, helps to stop your hair from catching them, also rinsing your hair in vinegar and water, also helps...........but your friends needs to get rid of hers...yuk good luck.
