Teams can only carry 25 players on their playoff roster. The rosters can be changed between playoff rounds.

They carry the standard 25 man roster. All players on the roster have to be part of that team on or before the July 31st trading deadline. Any player added after that is often used to help teams during the stretch run, but once the playoffs start they are ineligible to play. This includes minor leaguers that were brought of for the expanded rosters in September & October after the Minor League seasons are over. They can petition their league in the case of an injury to add players, but they have to meet certain restrictions as well (see the NY Mets pitching staff).

As far as how the money is divided, that is voted on by the players. Most of the time players who were on the Opening Day roster get full shares, and players added after that time can either be voted for full shares or for pro-rated shares. For example, someone added on 7/31 would have played approx. 1/3 of the season with this team. It stands to reason that unless thy played a major part in helping to win the playoffs that they would get a 1/3 share of the playoff money. Some players who don't play but are added have even not gotten a share in the past, i.e., they were hurt on 8/2 & never played again for the team.

Each playoff team must condense their roster back to the 25 man roster. After each round, the teams that advance can readjust their roster for matchups, injuries, etc. but only before the next round begins.

That is why the Tigers were stuck using SS Carlos Guillen at first for the majority of the Tigers/A's series when Casey got hurt.
ff is 9/1 as OF Matt Stairs was acquired in
I'm sure the next round they will take off Neifi Perez (at least I hope so) and add Chris Shelton.

P.S. - ByHisGrace: Actually, the cutoff for players being on the roster is not the trade deadline, but August 31st. If that were the case, Casey would not be on the team as the Tigers didn't trade for him until August 1st, in which the trade deadline is 7/31. Matt Stairs was acquired in mid September and that is why he was not available for the playoffs.

I believe you can re-set your roster in between series to account for injuries (e.g. Sean Casey). I think that would make Chris Shelton a "maybe" for the World Series Team. Even if isn't on the 25 man roster, he'll still get a ring. As far as money distribution goes, I really don't know.

I would say 25 players. In the movie Rudy, Coach said to Rudy that the NCAA orders only teams could only dress out 50 for home games, and it only certain positions (offense, defense, special teams, etc.), they only have one backup and there are high expectations for the team and that is competiting for the National title. The NFL is doing the same that they are competing for the Super Bowl title.

The playoff money is decided by the players.

Who gets the rings is decided by The GM.
