On Sunday, I saw a KC Chiefs player take down a Pittsburgh Steeler player by his long hair which as a result the team was penalized for 15 yards for unsportsmanship like conduct. I am asking you for your opinion. Should the NFL adopt a code that long hair by men should be outlawed in the league and be clean shaven, with the exception of a neat mousdache (Joe Girardi did it when he was manager of the Marlins.)? I would like for the NFL to adopt a similar policy like Joe Girardi did with the Marlins as well as the Yankees. What do you think about that since the NFL is a business?

No, but he should definitely tuck it up under his helmet where no one can use it for a handle.

LOOK OUT!!! The dress code Nazis are on the loose! The length of a person's hair has NOTHING to do with performance. Palamalo is an All-Pro & an adult that is being paid to do his job, which he does better than anybody else. Also, his hair is part of his heritage and is a personal choice, not a fashion statement. What's next, have all the players remove their gold crosses because that offends the non-Christians?

It's not going to happen in the NFL. The NFL as it is right now is very strict. For the record, long hair is part of the uniform.
As for Girardi, is he employed now?

Great debatable question but take this into consideration that Troy Polamalu has not cut his hair for his personal beliefs. He is of a particular heritage and that gives him the right to do as he pleases. A rule not allowing players to freely individulize themselves could cause more problems.

Having long hair gives the defender an advantage because hair counts as the uniform(das y Edge cut his after he was constantly getting his pulled down by his hair. LJ got the penalty for continuing to hang on to Polamalu's hair once they were out of bounds.

Should they also get rid of the helmets so there won't be a face mask injury? The person knows that he shouldn't be pulling someone's hair intentionally. If a trend begins where it is accidentially happening and people are getting hurt, then the NFL may need to take action to protect players.

The 15 yard penalty was NOT for tackling him with his hair.
The 15 year penatly was for not releasing his hair after he was obviously out of bounds.
The hair is part of the uniform rule is fine. The hair and the uniform can not be held after the player is out of bounds. It would have been the same 15 yard penalty if he had held the collar of his uniform.

sounds great, the company I work for used to have that and it's a machine shop! They should have it in the NFL...hell, they're getting paid millions for playing a sport they love they shouldn't complain oh I forgot they have to be careful what rules they set so they won't upset the cry babies like terrel owens.......I know owens doesn't have long hair, just an example of a cry baby.

heard this on ESPN last night
" it is legal to tackle using the hair, as long as you let go after tha tackles is complete, if not, its the same as holding a leg after a tackles is complete, a penalty"
when hair sticks out of the helmet like that, it is technically considered part of the uniform, and you can use any part of the uniform in an effort to make the tackle

Absolutely, I was thinking the same exact thing. First of all, that hair is absolutely awful. It also gives him an UNFAIR advantage. If you can't grab his hair, you can't grab the back of his shirt to tackle him. Less surface area. I don't really care about facial hair, except you shouldn't have a ZZ top Rip Van Winkle beard either for the same reason. Listen, these guys are slobs. I don't expect them to look good, so I have no issue with that aspect.

Troy Polomalu is the guy with the long hair you're speaking of. The rule is that you can have long hair if you chose. Larry Johnson (who pulled on his hair to tackle him) was not penalized for pulling his hair, but for what he did after the tackle, which was pull up on his hair and kind of drag him. THAT was the penalty, it is not illegal to tackle someone by their hair if it's sticking out....it's a part of their body, just like it's ok to tackle someone by their hand or foot. It's a risk those people with long hair take...
