Prolonged occupation will cause problems. We (Americans) don't think or act like they (Iraqi's and Afghani's) do. We have differing viewpoints on almost everything, however if we cut and run we will do more harm than good. By leaving a power vacuum we would invite totalitarian regimes in, just like the Taliban and Saddam's Bahthists, and terrorist entrenchment.
We need to control the insurgency and develop a sound relationship with the people of those lands. The terrorists don't want this to happen, which is why we are in the middle of the guerrilla war we're in. Easing out of Iraq, like we're trying to do is probably best, however I can see an argument that we need to step up this effort a bit faster. Afghanistan is already being controlled mostly by a broader international coalition, which will hopefully bring that country into the here and now.
Good question

The different factions in the area are at each others throats right now. They're killing each other off by the thousands. If America pulls out right now, civil war will break out full scale. With many Shiites and many Sunnis in the neighboring countries, each will support their side until the whole Muslim world is in a huge war.
If that scale of war breaks out ( and it will except for America ), what do you think the rest of the world will do ? I'm not taking any bets.

The problem: We don't really know ( Dems and Repub ) what to do by staying -- We don't know how to leave. It is time to develop relations with Iran, Syria, and Lebenon -- to deal with the creation of a viable Palestinian state -- gain recognition by Arab countries of Israel as a state -- start from scratch. We need the people of the region on the same page as the U.S.. The Arab nations do not want the civil war in Iraq to spread.

I disagree. Unfortunately many Americans have no sense of time or patience that it will take to get the job done. The world and the region will be better when Iraq and Afghanistan are democracies.

just to make clean One shot's stement approximately iraq, The Brit troops are of their barracks, because of the fact they have exceeded over accountability to the Iraqi militia. in case you look at casulty figures for Iraq length of conflict: 5 years, 5 months form of troops in theatre: 4,000 Casualty records analysed to: July thirty first uk militia fatalities: 176 uk militia casualties in 2007: 1950 uk militia casualties in 2008: 524* finished uk casualties: records not released and evaluate with Afghanistan length of conflict: 6 years, 10 months Troops in theatre: 7,800 Casualty records analysed to: July thirty first uk militia fatalities: 116 uk militia casualties in 2007: 1442 uk militia casualties in 2008: 986* finished uk casualties: records not released you will see the parent replicate that Iraq has an more suitable casualty parent and an more suitable fatality parent with a shorter length. With the replace in operations in Iraq the casualties this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days have decreased there so the concentration has long gone directly to Afghanistan. In answer to your question, Helmand in Afghanistan is at the instant the "warmer" of the two with the Brits struggling with a greater nicely-known style of conflict quite than the anti Terrorist place they have in iraq. i think of they troops would be there for a while, if we pull out much greater harmless human beings will go through than if we live.

Your position is a proven fact. The figures, exhiled and fired non-conformist American Generals, and anyone who with half a brain support your conclusion. If we could only convince Laura and Barney!!!!!
