I live in Brooklyn and I must say that there are way more important things that money can go to than potholes like cleaning up East New York of the abondoned buildings for one.

The only thing the mayor can do is to propose increased funding for the transportation department for street maintenance. The city council must then approve the budget increase. The transportation department must determine how much funding is available to repair the potholes, which repairs will do the most good, and allocate manpower, equipment and materials to perform the repairs. So you see, there are several levels that must pass through to fix a pothole. Further complicating the matter is traffic patterns and weather that makes the holes to begin with. An unusually wet or cold spell will create more problems. What you can do to hasten the repair of a particular pothole is to call in and report it.
