Go to a L&G Center and get Bonide Chickweed, Oxalis, and Clover Killer or Ortho Weed*b*Gon MAX. These are like regular lawn weed killers on steroids. They are made especially for hard to kill weeds like ground ivy. Put it on when it's going to be dry for at least 24 hours. If you miss areas you may have to spot treat in 10 days or so.

My sister has an ivy invasion problem, and asked me the same question in front of my mother. She said to pour boiling water on the roots.
I haven't tried this, and it seems sort of impractical (sounds more dangerous for the gardener then it would be for the ivy).
Still, in my private thoughts, I keep wondering if it would actually work.

try googling invasive weeds and then looking for ivy. The site may have suggestions on how to kill the plant. Just for starters, try the link below.

Go to the local livestock auction and purchase a baby goat. Probably cost you around $35.00 and they are soooo cute! They'll eat anything. And then when it get big you can invite your friends over for a goat barbecue. With lots of potato salad and cold beer. Yum!
