There are 3 signs of the onset of labour:
1) A show
2) Rupture of membranes (Waters breaking).
3) Onset of painful tightenings or contractions.
However, these may occur at any time and in any order. Some women do not experience a show or their waters breaking until well into advanced labour. Hope this helps.

Bloody show is caused by your cervix opening/dialating and blood vessels bursting. Not all women have bloody show, and even if they do, this isn't a sign of imminent labor starting. It just means that your cervix is PREPARING for labor.
The mucous plug is different from the bloody show that they speak of. The plug will come loose once your cervix has dialated to a certain point.
I never lost my plug, but I did have bloody show around my 38th week. I ended up having to be induced two weeks later, so in now way does it mean that the birthing process is starting soon.
If you start showing though, have lost your plug, notice a thin/water like substance in your underwear, and have been having the occasional contraction, you may want to make an appointment. Your water could be slowly leaking.
Once you get to your 36th week, your doctor will want to see you more frequently, and will do a pelvic check everytime. They will tell you how dialated you are, and let you know if you will be going sooner than later! :)
Good luck!

Well, the show is the little plug of mucous that sits at the entrance to the cervix throughout pregnancy. Usually when labour is about to start and the cervix starts to soften, this comes away. It is possible to go to the loo and it can slip away with the urine unnoticed or it can be unnoticed if the waters break. Don't worry. Do everything that the midwives say and you will be fine. All the best.X

I don't think that all women have bloody show. I can tell you that I lost my plug over a month ago and had some bloody show last week, but still no labor for me. I am at 37 weeks too, so it could be anytime. I think the only thing that really predicts labor is coming is your water breaking and consistent contractions.

Before giving birth to my first child I was in a total panic because I had not had a show but they told me that I was in labour and poked me with a long stick. Pregnant with my second I had a show. yuck! I am not going to elaborate.

Apart from low back ache for a week before, plus the nesting instinct for about the same length of time, the first indication was diarrhoea, vomiting and my waters breaking! It was the same with all three of my pregnancies.
Good luck.

Only happens to some women. I had shows with both my children. I got a strong pain beforehand then a little blood, but that's it.
