Home care workers play an important part in the delivery of care services today. Do their status and training reflect this importance and if not, why not?
can anybody help?

Absolutely no way,i worked for social services as a home carer for nine years until recently.
I have had to leave because of theyre total unconcern for our safety.
Because of the new care in the community rules we were told we would have to work until 10 pm to put our clients to bed, this was because the district nurses refused to do it any more.
Fair enough i thought,so i took driving lessons, passed my test, and bought a car because i wasnt going to walk around the streets at that time of night.
We were then told we couldnt use our cars, and were not allowed to take our mobile phones with us to work.
I still have friends working there and apparently its gone even worse with stupid petty rules, they are treated abominably.
I dont know if all councils are the same ,i can only speak for Manchester.
I had to leave because there was absolutely no way i would walk the streets at that time of night ,and my husband wouldnt let me.

Home Crae workers come in diffrent packages some are trained some are not or just basic. They do play a very important part in the delivery of care in the community and also have replaced nurses who did all this as well as their other duties.
I believe they have to have a certain amount of training as they are going into the homes to help the elderly/sick/disabled and what if a client is ill and they are the only person to see them that day. They need to be able to not only notice but what to do.
Their status is not really important it is the care they give the dedication to the job that is. You can have a highly trained person doing the job but if they do not care and have no dedication and are working just for money then the care must be effective. Going into give Mrs Jones her bed bath is not just part of the care it is talking to Mrs jones making her feel comfortable and at the same time keeping her dignaty.
Yes they need to be trained a trained person will earn more respect than one untrained however if they do not give that care properly what is the point of the qualification.
I know for fact you can have a wonderful trained homecare worker and a really bad one. You can also have the same with one untrained. So in answer to your question NO their training does not nessasary reflect their importance. A piece of paper is only good if you can deliver what it is for and unfortunatly some do not.
I do believe that Home Care Workers are very valuable and most to an amazing job and there would be a lot going without if they were not there.
Hope that helps in some way.
