You could not replicate your DNA. so infact if this problem existed in either the sperm or egg then no viable foetus could be produced.

One of the strands of DNA is produced backwards in small pieces called Okazaki fragments. These fragments have to be joined together and this is done by DNA ligase. Also if the DNA becomes damaged, DNA ligase is part of the repair "tool kit".
