Many pumpkin patches are grown just for this reason...for people to enjoy carving them and using them for decoration. I would think we should worry about the amount of food that is thrown away each day at local restraunts. If they would..instead of throwing it out donate it to a soupl kitchen or local homeless shelter it would help so many people right there in there own towns. Also, when grocerie stores clear the shelves of things like breads and pasteries, those could also go to the shelters.....People dont realize that there are things they can do at a local level, but for some, the board of health won't allow. This is a shame in itself. Good question all in all.

I'm not knocking you here~You obviously have a good heart... I just think your time would be better spent volunteering somewhere like in a soup kitchen rather than posing questions like this one on a forum that will not help the hunger crisis. You could join the peace corps and make a difference in the world. You should look into it. It's an awesome thing!

Yes, I understand your concern but it's all about money and self survival.
The guy that grows the pumpkins most likely doesn't have money to burn. As much as he would like to give a pumpkin to everyone in the world, he has his own family to consider first.

Yah it's sad but there's nothing we can do about it.. each day millions of people throw away leftovers from every meal & restarants are throwing out cold food while kids are starving all around the world, but I don't think that there is anything that we can do about it other than not wasting our food.

if you carve a pumpkin you can use the seeds and bake them up. you can use the guts for all sorts of stuff too...not everyone just throws them away.
you should donate money and time to homeless shelters since you seem to have a great concern.

I don't think pumpkins would be a good food choice for very hungry people. No protein!

In Cleveland we can take them to our zoo for the elephants to eat and play with, they love it! It makes me feel better than just throwing them away.
