How genuine is the apparent need for certain celebrities to adopt African children? Do you think that they are sincere in wanting to assist some of the world's poorest children or do you think that it is merely a case of a "fashionable accessory" to adopt an African child?

so?

if she's an appropriate outlet for this child then go for it!

if it's the usual propaganda... well at least the child has a roof over their head and at least a chance for a life since it obviously didn't have a chance prior.. considering it's option that is.. adoption not because where the child is from.

:D

i say good luck to all of them.

I don't believe it's a case of Madonna or other celebrities wanting fashion accessories. In Madonna's case, she has a serious concern for African orphans and the AIDS epidemic in general (I was in the 2nd row at her concert this summer when during her purported "mock crucifixion" she implored the audience to care, showing a video montage of African orphans and singing "Live to Tell" from the cross... it was very moving).

That said, I posed the question on this forum recently, "Why the hell is Madonna adopting an African boy?" and the question was removed after 40-some responses, many of them denouncing me as a "racist" (the cop-out du jour that everyone yells these days; kind of like how "witch" was yelled during the Salem witch trials era in the 1600s). My point was that it's sick how all these globe-trotting celebrities and rich people go around the world adopting kids when there are plenty of needy children right here in the USA. Adoption is a good thing, but I believe that people should adopt from their own nations. Rich Africans (or any able African for that matter) should adopt orphans there, and the same should follow suit here. Madonna and her husband should adopt a child from the USA or Britain, as these are the countries where they live. Period.

This is the first I've heard of Madonna wanting to adopt a child. I don't really keep up with celebrities and their personal lives. However, I think it's a good thing she's doing. Lots of kids out there need a good home.

As for whether she's genuine or the child is intended to be an accessory, I can't be the judge of that. I don't know her personally, so I can't say. Either way, she's giving a good home and a chance at a very bright future to a child who would otherwise have nothing.

Even if it is a "fashionable accessory," at least someone with the financial means to take a child out of hell and place them into a world of opportunity has the interest in doing so. I don't know Madonna personally, but from what I read about her, she seems genuinely interested in being a better person through spiritual enlightenment and by being a good parent. So many people are afraid to adopt children from Africa because of HIV risks. If she's willing to take a child into her home, then by all means go for it.

I don't understand why she is being criticized so much. The way I see it, she is trying to help this child have a better life and is being bashed for it. I think there is a problem with the fact that the government is pushing for it so much. The father always thought he was going to come back and get his son, yet the government told him that Madonna adopting him was not only good for the boy, it was "good for the country of Mawali". That should have nothing to do with it. As far as your other questions about transporting a child of a different culture into the UK/USA, I think there could be difficulties with the child losing a sense of identity, but hopefully she will be a good mother and does the best she is able to do to lessen that factor.

Well, how to say this & not sound racist...which I am not.
There are lots of children in need of being adopted. Many right here in the US. I think this is a fashionable thing to do, for a celebrity. I am sure she will take good care of the child, but she could have adopted someone in the US too, or instead...

I do think that there are alot of children in the states that could be adopted without going over seas, but would the celebs get the attention of the press if they adopted a local child? No matter what the reason is for the adoption the children will diffenetley lead better lives. In the end I guess that is what matters.

Angelina Jolie is probably genuine. She had been in Africa for quite awhile before she adopted her kid.
Madona wants a fashion accessory. The woman could have any child she wanted in all the world, but picked and African kid because it matches her leopard print underwear.
I think it's absolutely hilarious that the African government would rather the child remain an orphan than let Madonna raise it.
Hysterical!

Frankly, if a child needs a better life.....and can get one from a famous person or someone who is a white collar or blue collar worker........get that child adopted immeadiately. A child is not an accessory. Media has people who believe them thinking that just because ur famous and rich you dn't have a heart. Not true. (of course there are some exceptions)
I'd also like to stop hearing how unfair it is that she went to the head of the line in front of , say a couple from minneapolis who've been trying to adopt for a year. Tell me its unfair when that child has a full belly and a warm place to sleep and love.
The only thing that's unfair is to give air time to selfish whining about who gets to the front of the line first.

i have heard/examine Madonna doesn't even protect the youngsters this is the nanny, so this is the nanny that receives the more advantageous paintings and be like a mum no longer Madonna. From what i have examine/heard the in difficulty-free words type of mum she is is a economic employer account. So the youngsters will not in any respect want for something yet they prefer love. this may be thoroughly unfaithful for sure.
