There is mistakes you can not fix. Like if you cause the death of someone by accident or happenstance or even worse, but
anyone who has lived to the ripe old age of 22 or older has made one or more bad mistakes. It is mandatory that you do so, because others well make mistakes, with you as the victim.
One of the most painful ones I have made more than once is saying something to a friend that was thoughtless and right. I did that a couple of times and the pain really never completely goes away.
However, that is called learning the hard way. And, that is not really the worse part of it because you were not intending to do the damage you may have done. That does not mean you are faultless, but it does mean that you are human or forgivable.
Humans make all kinds of mistakes that are mostly forgivable.
For this you have to do appropriate penitence. It maybe confession and a life changing practice of self-accountability and service to ours whatever is appropriate.
But, humans must update their sense of compassion, love, understanding, consciousness and conscious. We can learn. We must learn. Learning is or can be very hard at times, but it needs to be done on a regular bases.
Unless you are a hermit, you will make mistakes with others and nature like animals. So turn your compassion on yourself and reason out what you can do to compensate and avoid making the same mistake twice. You can do it.
Start by showing yourself compassion and forgiveness.

When I was 17, I said things to my mother that I wish I never did. We have a great relationship now, but I can't stop thinking of things I said to her, would give anything to fix those days. I know that is young, but that is what makes us stronger and we can learn from the mistakes.

Two marriages and three children who had to deal with it?

:) Really what I was thinking is that any negative or hurtful thing I've said to anyone. Words stay in their hearts forever, worse than a slap in the face. Apologies really can't even fix hurt caused by words.
