SIDS? My baby is very active, back to stomach & stomach to back with ease. He's heads-up a lot, and starting to pull up. He's 6mo but I'm still terrified of SIDS. Could someone ease my mind?

I was (am) worried with my son too, but once they can roll over good and lift their head they are less at risk. One thing that made me feel a whole lot more comfortable is called a "breathable mesh bumper", which I found at Babies 'R Us, also can be found at www.onestepahead.com. My son kept rolling his face into the cute cloth bumper that I had, then would try pulling down. I have had no problems with the mesh bumper and it gave me lots of peace of mind. Good luck!!

SIDS is usually not much of a worry after about 1 yr old. They do make SIDS pillow not sure that it would help with your child being on the go so much. Just don't put blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals in the bed with him. These are what the doctors say can increase the chances of SIDS. I would also like to say I have four kids and the doctors can't make up there mind which position is best they want them on their back, then changed to belly etc... In my opinion being on the back would be more dangerous only because if your baby vomits he could suck it back in his lungs and get aspirated pneumonia. This happened to my nephew and he spent 25 days in the hospital many of which was in ICU. If you have more questions it would be best to consult your pediatrician.

He's less at risk for SIDS. Doctors say when a baby reaches six months the probability of that happening drastically decreases. My son sleeps with a blanket (I know I'm a horrible mother) as comfort. He is still alive and sleeps better now for some reason. If you are following the guidelines (no fluffy blanket, no pillows, firm mattress) now you can worry less. I've listed a site to go see what can and should be done to prevent such a horrible thing to happening.

I've always heard the chances get lower as they get older. By time they are 2 they should be out of the clear for SIDS.
They have new baby monitors with little tvs on them so you can see your baby. I would assume that would make you more at ease knowing you could see and hear your baby.

here goes nothing...if your child is rolling around like you say he is then he is not at risk for SIDS; however he is still at risk for suffocation..be sure that you keep the crib free of pillows and stuffed toys and the like since these things can smother him while he is rolling around. Always put him on his back when putting him down to bed, he will find a comfortable sleeping position after that even if it is on his side or his tummy. SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome usually occurs in the first 6 weeks of a child's life and seems to occur more often in those children who are born pre-mature.

I really ain't to sure but I think by 6 months old the chances of SIDS are down alot and by the age of 1 almonst no chance at all. But my cousin who would be almost 30 years old today died a month before her second birthday and they ruled her death as SIDS.

I believe that once a child can roll from stomach to back and back to stomach their chances of SIDS decreases tremendously. Once they regain neck strength and head movement, it decreases even more. At 6 months of age your child has developed numerous skills which would decrease his or her risk of this.

Some doctors say pacifiers are a way to cut down the risks too as the sucking on it all night helps keep them from being TOO DEEP into sleep. But then you have to fight with them years down the line to get rid of that.

Best of luck. Your child is fine!

At 6 months the risk of SIDS drops dramatically. Just make sure you keep the crib free of toys and any other choking / strangulation hazards. I never use a baby bumper looks cute but they are dangerous.

I done a lot of reading on SIDS and would like to give you a website to look at its : www.babysake.com and then I also did a google search on natural cures for SIDS. I was surprised at what I have found.

I was worried about SIDS when I had my first baby, but she had extra strong neck muscles and could lift her head at birth. I would put her to bed on her back, then at 1 1/2 months, I found her on her tummy one morning. I kept trying to put her on her back, but she would turn over, so I figured that she would be OK, and she was.
At times I would watch her sleep to see if she would put her nose into the mattress and suffocate, but she would move her head from side to side.
You really just have to keep an eye on them and determine if you think your child has a strong enough neck to control her head movements.
I'm on my second baby now and have put dear son on his tummy from the beginning because that is the position he prefers.
I know that this is contrary to what doctors recommend these days, but face it. In the 60s when I was born, doctors recommended that you put the baby to sleep on their tummies.

I think it is three or four months. I have two little girls, and another baby on the way. I was terrified of SIDS with my first. But not as worried with my second. Yours should be fine!
