I think it's Juninho from FC Lyon; he's the best free-kick taker on the planet, possibly the most "clutch" footballer in the world right now, however, he didn't even start for the Brazil nationals! Anyone else?

Hernan Crespo...whenever I speak to people about him they give me this funny look. Maybe it is just the country that I live in but people just don't get it. I firmly believe that Crespo single-handedly "saved" Inter Milan yet people fail to give him credit.

I think it is really sad that he spent a fair amount of his career overshadowed by Batistuta. I know that he is a hero in Argentina but I think people doubt him because of his age regardless of his capabilities...

Robin Friday is the most underrated footballer of all time. Played for Cardiff. He should have been a star but his womanising and drinking put George Best to shame. He's dead now though. Right now, probably a defensive player along the lines of Ricardo Carvalho or Nemanja Vidic. Gareth Barry, Brad Friedel, David James also class. However, all these players are recognised as good players. My answer is going to be Mikel Arteta. Never capped for Spain, yet possibly the most naturally talented player in the Premiership outside the 'big 4' or 'big 3' as it should actually be. Liverpool Don't count.

There are many:

Andreas Iniesta, Barcelona
Rafeal Van Der Vaart, Hamburg
Matthew Taylor, Portsmouth
Aaron Lennon, Tottenam

the list goes on and on.

I don't think Juninho from Lyon is underrated because everyone talks about how good he is all the time, and if he wasn't Brazilian he'd be playing for the first-team in his national side aswell, unfortunately players like Kaka, and Ronaldinho are better.

Also I don't think Xavi is underrated as much as Iniestia is as Xavi used to be a starter, and now he will struggle to get back into the side.

However I'm sure more ppl. know who Xavi is than Iniestia

I gotta agree with Juninho. In fact, a lot of players from Lyon are underrated.

But my number 1 most underrated would definitely be Kaladze from AC Milan. People just don't even know his name, and he's one of the best defenders right now.

i think Luca Toni of Fiorentina and Italy
he top scored in 2005 season of Serie A
and had agreat world cup 2006
also he scored a goal in Italy's win over Ukraine in EURO 2008 qualifying
despite all this he still isnt spoken alongside the young stars of today and doesnt get a transfer to a bigger European club

The most underrated footballer is XAVI from Barcelona, he is one of the best midfielders in the world, but nobody sees him.
My answer would be surprising to everyone, but when you watch a Barcelona game keep an eye on Xavi

Brazil is a mega team! Many good and talented players don't get a spot on the lineup! It's not fair but it is true.

The most underrated player is in my opnion Kasey Keller. He had a good world cup overall. In the Ghana-USA game, it wasn't his fault that the goals went in but due to very poor defending from the US side.

God damn, I have been waiting for a big club to try get him, but shocked to see no one moving in for him. A player gets the hype only after moving to a big club, thats a rule.Cristiano Ronaldo was unknown in Lisbon , a week in Manu and he's already a star

ur perfectly right.if he wasnt brazilian hed be one of the best players in a national team.his freekicks are at par with beckham but hes got pace and skill too.sometimes just looking at him(in world cups)i feel whether he regrets being a brazilian.
