I'm more than willing to help people with this sort of question, but if they are going to learn they should at least try for themselves first

of course! How would you know what they need help with, if you don't know where they are confused. I honestly wouldn't help someone that can't atleast help themselves first. they should atleast give you, the helper, something to start from. my personal opinion.

Yes it is kindve like cheating but u should at least sometimes help them. As a child and, I'm twelve years old in the seventh grade, sometimes our work can be very hard. There has been times where I ask my parents and they don't know or I use a book and it does not have anything to help or I try the web and can't find anything. Usually after I put up my question on how to solve it I start searching right after I put it on there and don't give up. I come back and I see answers and I try to see how they solve this and work backwards instead of putting any old answer down. I also tell them that I don't want the answer I just need to know how to solve it. I've only used Yahoo Answers about 2 or 3 times and it usually works. If u don't get it at school then how are u suppose to understand if u don't know , but all that aside I agree with u totally.

Yes i think they should help I remember when I was at school hundreds of years ago and sometimes given homework that had to be in next day.I would have to run to the library if open and spend what time was left trying to find it all out.
I know we have the technology today and if they have put up a question then they not only have a computer but also Internet access however getting some information is not that easy. Pointing them in the direction of the power that be to help them research is not a problem for me.
t least they have used their brain and asked and in my book that is research do not forget they then have to put all that information together and if you have not researched it for yourself you have not learnt it.So when teacher asks you may be in trouble if you have not done it properly and then that is their problem not ours.
Some do suggest an answer some do not but some questions there may not be one answer but several and that is why they are confused.
Teachers are not stupid and will know about all the resources available and will set homework that requires a lot more than us answering one question.

I guess I've always assumed that they've exhausted all of their resources about which THEY know. I do agree, though. That's why a lot of times I've posted a web-site where they can find their answer.

The posts that really drive me crazy are the ones from the same person with the next set of math problems. They will post about 3 problems, receive their answers, then post the next 3, etc. If they didn't learn how to do it from the first set of answers, they should seek tutoring help!

I suppose that is the point of homework. As I'm still a school pupil myself, I wouldn't choose to ask strangers on the Internet. Instead I'd go back through my notes if I was stuck. Anyway, if other people do your work for you how do you ever manage in exams where you can't cheat?

It depends on the subject matter. There is a box just under the question to take you to the net and find names and dates, descriptions etc...So that is easier. Numerical sciences are more difficult. I would not know how to balance a chemical equation and would not have a clue where to look to get help so I would understand their need for help in the same dilemma.

Yes I agree, but there again you can always help them - What does a teacher do? They tell them the answers. I think some people just need a little extra help or a nudge in the right direction

I try 2 provide them with a few web-sites, so they actually seek out the information 4 themselves.
Depends how generous I'm feeling or not.
4 two points, I try not 2 bicker.

I agree & it seems like more questions lately are the "do my homework for me" sort. When I do answer, I give a link and/or an explanation so they can find the answer as opposed to just giving it to them.

They should totally try to come across with an answer coming from their own knowledge and not expecting that someone gives away free answers. Can you imagine those guys in a few years still wandering around here and waiting for someone who can resolve their issues, how patetic is that???
