i had stress test done on me ever since i was 34 weeks pg. I had them done 2 times a week for 2-3 weeks. everything was fine. They do that just to make sure the baby is moving like it should among some other things. Don't worry about it things will be okay...

What they actually will do is called a non-stress test. I had numerous non-stress tests done while I was pregnant with my 4th child. I was a high risk pregnancy since I was 38 and had Gestational Diabetes along with a few other problems. 9 weeks before my due date, I had to go in every Friday and have a non-stress test and an ultrasound to monitor the baby's progress. The non-stress test is very simple. All I had to do was sit in a reclining chair with my feet up, the technician attached a monitoring device around my belly and then I sat and read for 15-20 minutes while the monitor recorded the baby's movements. Not hard at all. Unfortunately I had a very sleepy baby and the technician often had to do a little poking, prodding, and shifting of my stomach to try to get the baby to wake up and move. Ordinarily a concern of babies born to moms with Gestational Diabetes is the baby gaining too much weight. I had a lot of trouble eating enough to gain weight myself and my baby weighed 6 pounds when born at 41 weeks. Your daughter still has 2-4 weeks for her baby to grow and put on some more weight. My daughter had several years of poor weight gain, but is 9 now and while still thin, is healthy.

I had several. When doing a stress test, they moniter the babies heartrate and are looking for acelerations in heartrate related to movement. She will push a button everytime the baby kicks, which will be indicated on the paper, and see what the heartrate was doing at that time. Some times this test last only 15 minutes if the baby meets the criteria with his/her acelerations, however sometimes it take longer if the baby is sleeping, or doesn't meet, has decelorations in h/r whatever. If by chance the baby doesn't meet the criteria in 2 hrs, it is a sign of possible distress and they will do a ultrasound (biophysical ultrasound) where they look for tone, breathing, amount of amniotic fluid, movement, and size. All will be o.k. The baby gains most of the weight the last few weeks, so if she goes to full term, expect a 6lb baby.

In the last 2-4 weeks of pregnancy a fetus can put on up to a pound a week though half a pound is usual. Many women have 6lb babies. And if the stats hold up that is about what your grandchaild may wiegh upon birth.

And hey who ever said doctors were always right? They said my baby would be 6lbs when he was born and he was 7lbs 14oz !!

they kust did kick test on me. This is where they put you in a recliner, and give you juice. AThen a monitor that is strapped to you will mesure the babys movements, and kicks. Witch should be happening now. 4 lbs is small, but I was 4lb 2oz when I was born and turned out fine. You still have a little while, fatten up that baby. good luck and hope all goes well

I was pretty much the same way as your daughter. At 35 weeks they told me that I would be lucky to have a 5 lb. baby. My doc. was doing stress tests on me and all of that. When they induced at 38 weeks, my baby was born healthy and weighing 5lb. 0oz. She is now 3 years old and happy and healthy. She's on the small side still but other than that she's fine.
Good luck to you.

A stress test is where you are placed on a treadmill and have an EKG attached. Showing how your heart behaves under different levels of "stress". This ius the only stress test of which I am aware.

Our last one was born at 36 weeks, she was 4lb and just fine. We had her in Mexico (not planned, she just came a tad early), and they let us take her home only 12 hrs after birth. No problems.

Gonna have baby #4 this week!!!

all they do for a stress test is put a belt monitor thing across her tummy and when baby moves she will push a button, the graph paper shows babys heart rate at each movement. theres no pain involved

A stress test is harmless. They just put belts aroudn your belly to check the heartbeat and to make sure baby is moving. Its acculay pretty cool. I accualy had one this AM so..........LOL im newley refreshed on how it works. The baby is small for as far along as she is.....but im sure all is well. Good luck!
