This protest is not for anything, but is against a person. This protest is happening because some people do not want Dr. Jane Fernandes to be the next Gallaudet President. She is deaf, she is qualified, and she is supported by the Board.Some of the more than 200 protesters Monday night said they don't like Fernandes because she is too strict. Some questioned whether she could be a strong advocate for the school.They also said she is the wrong person to serve as a spokeswoman for Gallaudet, which is viewed as a major center for Deaf culture around the world. Fernandes, however, has the support of Gallaudet's board of trustees and the outgoing president. She is expected to take office in January.
