Most expensive compared to what? Are you limiting the parameters? Trains, planes, automobiles (funny movie, by the way, starring John Candy and Steve Martin. But, I digress).

Distance traveled bears a factor, too. But, I can think of one method of travel that is most expensive nowadays: travel by space shuttle! $10,000/pound in 2003, according to this site:
