Because they want to keep their paychecks for a change, like us republicans do.

Jim W., I love when you make statements without backing them with facts. Oh, wait, you do this EVERY single time you make a statement.

So Florida has really high taxes, huh?

Higher than historically Liberal states like California, and New York?

Let's see:

Florida:

Sales tax: 6%-9.5% depending on where you live
Gasoline Tax: 31.8 cents/gallon
Income tax: 0%, none, nothing

California:

Sales Tax: 7.25% - 8.75% depending on where you live
Gasoline Tax: 41.6 cents/gallon
Income tax: 1.0% - 9.3%; However, anyone who makes much more than $15/hour is in the top tax bracket; and almost everyone, except students, people fresh out of school, and illegal workers make this. They have to because of the high cost of living in CA.

But just to be fair, let's take the average of 5.15%

New York:

Sales Tax: 4.0% - 9.5% depending where you live
Gasoline Tax: 45.77 cents/gallon
Income Tax: 4.0% - 7.7%

In all tax categories, it looks like Florida is either much lower or nearly the same as New York and California.

The only other major tax to compare is property tax.

Property taxes vary quit a bit through out each state; however, the average property value in New York and especially California is much higher than Florida.

So, Florida wins this category as well.

Sounds like Florida's tax burden is much lower than traditional liberal states!

Are you leaving? My guess is that when republicans are in office too long, and leave a total wasteland of the economy (like in MY state), democrats as usual are voted in to fix those problems, and blamed for having to do the dirty work. Perhaps if people like Bush and Engler didn't run government to represent themselves and big business, instead of americans, our economies wouldn't look so bad. You know what's funny, I pay WAY more in federal taxes than I do in state taxes...I wonder how much better off MY state would be if MY money stayed here and helped invest in diversifying our portfolio (Granholm's plan)?

Two states with high tax burdens. Montana and California. CA, from its past love affair with taxation has one of the worst business climates in the country. Concurrently they have one of the most overloaded welfare systems and is rife with fraudulent claims that eschew logic while consumping untold millions.

Montana has the second worse tax xlimate in the US, MASS being the worst. Any time you want to have high volume social services, you will have high taxes. People are leaving CA and the other states for states like FL and TX simply because they are tired of paying taxes for services they will never use.

Because all of the countries growth is in the red states. My clients in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Texas all complain about not having a good enough selection of employees.

Plus you can't beat the cost of living in the south. Even if you take a slight cut in pay it is offset by the reduced taxes.

Could it be that your agenda of the elimination of the middle class is succeeding. The destruction of unions, sending jobs out of the country while giving tax breaks to corporations who do so. Importing labor from the third world to keep wages low along with disastrous trade policies have indeed had their desired effect for you. Could it be that without a vibrant, educated middle class that democracy itself, cannot survive ?
