As Chinua Achebe famously noted 'Things Fall Apart.'
On a slightly more Douglas Adams-y note, I think I might have a theory on why your book makes just as much sense in your newly ordered edition. You see, when the pages ripped away from the binding they ripped a slight tear in the space-time continuum. This created a small vortex in the Field of Probability. Then, when you reassembled the pages, the paper pushing into the Field of Probability caused an overlap with a parallel universe where Douglas Adams failed to hire an editor. Thus what you hold in your hands is a copy of 'All Fish and Thanks for the So Long', which while in a completely different order makes just as much sense. (You see, in this parallel universe, Douglas Adams also chose a different order of titles. So, while you originally owned 'Life, the Universe and Everything' it is indeed 'All Fish and Thanks for the So Long' in the parallel universe. And to say it is parallel may be a bit of an overstatement. In reality it was a tangential universe.)
So, my advice to you is keep that book. It will surely be a collector's item once eBay goes universally tangential!

This is obviously a discussion between the fisherman and the keeper of a private lake. He has just been offered some rather small critters to replenish the larger stock that has depleted through a fish disease.
Although disappointed by their size he realises they will grow, given the right circumstances and is thanking the angler for his help.
This is an obvious passage from the famous paper back called Dropsy, Fish Disease For The Clumsy Keeper

I just finished reading this particular book yesterday. I must say now that I think about it, I suppose that you could read most of the book in any order. My favorite spot would be where they visit "outside" the asylum. What an intriguing concept. :) I am still pondering however the importance of the last message from God. I love Douglas Adams. His words really make you see the world differently.

Vogons, hyperspace bypass, Earth scheduled for demolition in 2 minutes. All the dolphins leave the seas with a final message for mankind, "so long, and thanks for all the fish".
For the final book of the same name, the dolphins place an earth from an alternate time-line back in our universe via their campaign to "save the humans".Arthur Dent & new friend Fenchurch (yes, like the station) go in search of God's final message to his creation which a dying Marvin the paranoid android reads for them.

Animals who live in harmony with nature are far more intelligent than complicated humans who try to control the environment. We are just as detructive as the vogons, only slower.
