there are so many diseases carried by turtles, birds and reptiles as well...Salmonella is one of the most common diseases transmitted to humans. NOT a good thing...nausea and vomiting along with severe diarrhea are signs of it...call a doctor or go to ER immediately. Basic rules of handling any animal is to wash hands immediately after....whilst washing with soap say the alphabet at least twice before you are done...this should ensure all bacteria has been removed or non threatening...use lots of soap it's cheaper than Dr. bills! Enjoy your pets!

ummm no. Do you mean if you eat it? Alot of people eat turtle soup. Thats made with water turtles. They do not have poison or anything like that.

Just be sure to wash your hands after handling it, and you should be fine. "Handling" also includes just touching the shell. If you get bitten, be sure to clean the wound COMPLETELY! Anti-bacterial soap, warm water, betadine if you have it.

Yes!! It can give you salmanella if you don't thoughouly wash your hands after touching it. Salmanella can be deadly!
