The visit is for 5 days, and will be the first time in Amman from U.S. Any reasonably priced hotels within a decent range of all attractions and any additional info anyone can provide would be helpful.

Thanks.

in Amman! mmmmmm...... i'm sorry, but not much to see!
it is all about restaurants, malls and movies....
Hotels. 5* hotels are really good, such as the Amman Marriot, and Grand Hayat and SAS. 4* hotels, such as Arwad, Al-quds, Amra (grand palace). 3* hotels are not bad at all, like Amman Orchida.
All kind of restaurants are available, Arabic food: Howwara, Kan Zaman, in SAS there is a nice arabic rest. called El-Liwan. Italian, mexican and chinese.... all you can find, it is gonna take me fore ver to count! check this website for their phone numbers and check if they have websites of their own http://www.bu.edu/acor/phnlst.htm
try not to miss Petra... it is beautiful i always recommend it to my friends. if you are interested try to fix a one night-camp in Wadi Rum, it is cute if you are into nature. you need around 4 hours to get to Petra.
unfortunately, i cant recommend the theme park in here, it is anything but a theme park :( or any museums.... if you are schedualed to come during Ramadan. in Radisson Sas, they have a sarcastic play performed by Lebanese actresses/actors, i heard it is fun!
Jerash, Ajloun castle, and Um Qais are pretty ancient ruins if you are into these things!
good luck

There are a lot of nice hotels in Amman , but what you really have to see is not in Amman , Petra is a must see, also the Dead sea is lovely at this time of year, the hotels there are very nice too, it is only 35 minute drive from Amman.
Jerash is nice too, it 45 minutes away from Amman.

when in amman, you can see the amphitheater in the suq in downtown. there really isnt a lot to do in amman. but here a few MUST see's when in jordan.
petra of course
aqaba
jerash
ajloon (there is a castle there, that is about all there is to see, but its really one of the most beautiful places i have ever seen!)
mt nebo in madaba
ma'an...there are hot springs there, take your swim suits...there is a place for the women to go privately. and the drive is breath taking!
also, visit the dead sea....go the route thru al ghor, not the way via petra, you will see a spectacular view of a valley, that reminds me of the grand canyon. plus you will be able to view the west bank from the jordan side.
also visit the city of salt, its so pretty!
if you go north to irbid, there isnt a lot to see but a lot of pretty countryside. but there is some really great picnic spots!
good shopping in zarqa!
you will run into the nicest people you have ever met, they will be so excited to meet muslims from the usa!
one place in amman, to see its a resturant called Nakil, its near marj al hamam, they have great food, and fire works at night.
as far as hotels, you will find a range, from expensive to cheap. have a good trip...its well worth it! assalaamu 3leykum!

There is a website called virtualtourist.com where people post their vacation pics and rate hotels and restaurants and such. I have used the site before some of my travels, and found it to be very insightful. There are a lot of pics and tips for Amman.
