I'm thinking of vacationing in Greece sometime next year. Anyone ever been to Greece and can recommend when and where to go? I'm more into beaches and site seeing.

If you want to visit Greece and really enjoy yourself, avoid visiting July and August.
And if you want to combine beaches and sight seeing you can visit the island of Santorini where you can see the caldera, ancient ruines -a whole city discovered-, local architecture of houses curved in the volcanic rock, thermanl springs and vineyards.
You can visit Lefkada and Ithaki with some of the most beautiful beaches of the world and ancient ruines of the City of Odysseus, you can visit Mount Pelion with beautiful beaches facing the Aegean Sea and exquisite landscapes around, the island of Crete with very beautiful landscapes and beaches, decorated with lots of History dating from Pre-historic times up to date.
E-mail me if you want further information.
I'll be glad to help you.

I have been to some forty Greek Islands and also some areas on the mainland. Naxos has excellent beaches (Try Agia Anna) and the main town is lively and attractive. It is also large enough to have a mountanous interior which makes for a good couple of days in a car. August can be very windy since there is a seasonal wind from the north called 'the meltemi'.
Much of the above applies to Crete - but do a little research (Books = 'Lonely Planet' and 'Rough Guide') since there are some areas which arte overdeveloped.

I just went there this past July. Santorini was my favorite spot. It has amazing scenery and has nice beaches also. Mykonos was great and had some really beautiful beaches as well. it is more of a party spot than Santorini. You definitely have to see the islands!

Check out this site. It is the best travel site I have found.

www.tripadvisor.com

it has reviews for just about everthing written by people who have been there. I planned my entire honeymoon from this site and all of the advice I received was dead on .

There are also great forums on there so you can ask questions. People considered "local experts" and other users will answer just about anything.

I am living in Greece now. If you are a beach person, you must definately visit the islands. There are many many! Now depending on what time of year you would like to visit and if you like lots of people or nice and quiet, you can get it all.
There are many places to visit, lots of ancient history in every single place.
Bad time to come is in August where the whole country is on vacation and things are very busy. However, if you are in Athens its much quieter than other times ( because everyone is gone to the islands etc).

anyplace you pass in Greece there are newspapers, revealed in Greece, interior the languages of the fairly some minorities (immigrant minorities and "close by" minorities like Turks, Slavs etc). in addition they have television information declares in Turkish, Russian, Albanian, Serbo-Croat, Italian etc etc. i've got lived interior the united kingdom, in France and in Austria and that i observed no longer something like that. It makes me offended that the Greeks get accused of racism whilst they're actual no worse than everybody else, and probably even somewhat greater advantageous. of direction there is racism there, yet no longer something like banned languages. don't think the crap you examine on the cyber web. I enjoyed Greece as quickly as I lived there. Like everywhere it has problems with immigration and minorities, yet they do truthfully attempt to unravel them, in assessment to international locations like the united kingdom the place ALL politicians, regardless of the place they're (left, appropriate), communicate approximately throwing immgrants out as though they're some style of illness.
