Has anyone been told this by their doctor? Because I have been taking a lot lately...2 tabs every 6 hours for the bad low back pain I've been having. I'm 21 weeks.

My doctor allows 1 extra strength or 2 regular strength tylenol every 4-6 hours. (2 regular strength is 650 mg while 1 extra strength is 500 mg, so I would go with the 2 regular strength.) If you need anything more than that, you should talk to your doctor about possible alternative treatments like massage, chiropractics, warm or cold compresses (although not hot) or acupuncture. My doctor recommends any of those that work for the patient. Taking more Tylenol than that requires a risk/benefit analysis so you can determine whether the risks to the fetus from your Tylenol consumption are worth it given the benefits it is providing you.

You should absolutely not try any other pain medications without your doctor's go ahead. Ibuprofen and asprin are both counterindicated (a.k.a. not good) in pregnancy.

I hope you feel better!

You are taking it as directed. A doctor will tell you to only take Tylenol during pregnancy, and NOTHING ELSE! I just got out of the hospital Saturday for a bleeding ulcer (I am not pregnant however) and I got it because I was taking too much asprin and Ibuprofen, which contains asprin-like compounds. My GI Specialist told me this. If you are taking the Tylenol as directed you should be fine. Take heed to the watning on the label though: if you take it for more than 2 weeks and the pain is still persistant, talk to your doctor. He may perscribe something else or refer you to an OB/GYN that can help you find alternative methods to help this pain.

Good luck.

Usually tylenol doesn't even help pregnancy pains. But if it seems to help you out a lot then I would say go for it as long as you are following the proper dosage. Also make sure that you drink plently of water and eat while you are taking tylenol so it doesn't just sit in your stomach that way it gets spread around to the spot that hurts.

What should I avoid?

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any other cold, allergy, pain, or sleep medication. Tylenol (sometimes abbreviated as APAP) is contained in many combination medicines. Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much acetaminophen which can lead to a fatal overdose. Check the label to see if a medicine contains acetaminophen or APAP.
Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of liver damage while taking Tylenol.

During pregnancy one should be careful in taking any type of medication. I believe your back pain comes from the weight of the baby, tends to put a train on those muscles. There is a safer way than tablets. You can do some light exercise targeting the back area. Consult your Dr or get a second opinion.

Tylenol (acetominophen) is safe but you gotta be a little stronger and cut it back a little. Tylenol is safe because it gets fully absorbed before it gets to your baby. BUT because too much of it can cause you liver damage you should cut back. That's gonna hurt LOTS MORE than the low back pain. Drink tons of water, Mamma. Congrats!

Please don't take any Ibropuen that is the wrong thing to take when your pregnant. You can take as many tylenol that it says on the bottle. ask your doctor he or she will tell you the same thing. I know how you feel my doctor prescribed me something stronger for my back pain. You could damage your baby if you take motrin or any other Ibropuen though you are doing the right thing. Good luck and Congrats.

You shouldnt be taking extra strength. You should only be using Regular Strength Tylenol unless otherwise told by your doctor. I'd talk to your OB asap i dont know what effects this could have on your unborn baby, but do you want to risk it?

Too much Tylenol over a period of time, can cause liver damage in anyone. Definitely check with your obstetrcian. Never self medicate either in amt. or frequency, especially while pregnant. Good luck to you & your precious baby. Congratulations!

It is bad to take a lot for anyone, but especially when pregnant. You need to talk to your doctor if tylenol isn't working for you.
