After playing football (grade school, high school, and college) and coaching it for 10 years, I am totally disgusted by the whole situation. Currently the players have only been suspended for 1 game.

What a joke this has become. The "win at all cost" attitude in college and pro sports has to stop in my opinion. If I were the coach, the players in the fight would be benched for a couple of weeks. They guy swinging the helmet would be kicked off the team.

I wrote a letter to the NCAA today via their web site to voice my disgust on the whole issue. We as fans also need to voice our concern to the NCAA and the universities about this attitude.

Too many players are at these schools are there simply because they are great athletes. They do not graduate and a degree in basket weaving will not get you anywhere in the world. So no wonder that most of these guys who get in the pro's are riddled with problems, drug scandles, etc.

I honestly hope the NCAA will step in and kick these players off the team and force the suspension of the season for these two teams.

A slap on the wrist for these organizations send the wrong message to grade school, high school, and college students and athletes that this type of behavior will be tolerated.

What happened this weekend was tragic for college football, most importantly for the two schools involved. I believe there is not a place in sports for a brawl like this with players wielding helmets as weapons and stepping on other players. It must be noted that this was not the first incident the University of Miami has had with brawls like this. I believe that each player that left the bench in this brawl should be suspended for one game, regardless of what they did, like basketball rules are for leaving the bench. Then, I also believe the punishments were very weak and each player that threw a punch, instigated the fight, and involved themselves with the fight should be suspended for well over one game, maybe even the whole season. This punishment of one game suspensions is no worse than a slap on the wrist. Although FIU started the fight, Miami needs to step up and take on greater responsibility for what happened because it is the bigger school. After the fight came the worst display of sportsmanship I have ever seen when the Miami players took off the helmets and started to celebrate the fight. Those players should be ashamed of themselves and they owe it to their school for bringing it down a notch on my board.
