Also, can anyone recommend a good make of dishwasher? Don't want to spend more than £250.

Yes Zanussi are a decent quality brand of washing machines and washer dryers. They also make decent fridges and freezers, cookers etc.
AEG and Electrolux are part of the same group and use the same components as Zanussi, in case you didn't know.
If you want to spend less than £250 try an Indesit. They're very simply made but aren't bad for the money.

Zanussi, yes a good make of Washing Machine, don't know about the dishwasher.

Our family had a Zanussi washing machine, it coped with three children growing up and kept on working, admittidley after 12 years we had to replace the setting dial, then the brushes on the motor wore out twice and they had to be replaced.
We kept it for sixteen years, then decided to get a new washing machine, it still worked when we threw it out, just the bearings in the motor were going. The chassis never rusted and the seals around the drum never failed. Our machine was a brilliant one!

I have a Zanussi washing machine, dishwasher and fridgefreezer. All are good quality.

I have zanussi washer, dishwasher and fridge freezer and they are very good, before I had hotpoint and they were brilliant and a good price, try and wait for the January sales if you can.

Had a Dishwasher and Washing machine by Zanussi, both on extended warranty....so glad about that!!!!! Had so much grief they let me have new machines in the end...Siemens.

Starlet 10 has the right answer and don't fall for additives that prolong the life. You can buy a new washing machine each five years with the money.
Indeset is made by Hotpoint I think?

Zannussi are good but like any make - you can always get a rogue one. With dishwashers I have always brought Indisit or Candy - basic and cheap but they last around 10 years with daily use.
