Call ADT security systems, they will come to your home install the system, key pad, 5 sensors on doors and or windows or motion detectors all for only $100.00 the deal is you need to sign up for their central monitoring 24 hour alarms notification to police etc. which is needed for peach of mind and that costs $29.00 per month. I did this and it's worked out great and I have had no problems at all, people see the little sign PROTECTED BY ADT SECURITY SYSTEM and the stickers on winds and go away. https://www.adt.com/resi/programs/search1/Offer/?pfx=paidsearch=ssp

we have sensors with cameras on our property.because we run our business out of our hm..but sensors r great if u have the light that comes on also when activated ,we have our sensor hooked up to our cameras so when the sensors come on it activates the cameras...and believe me they WORK..we have caught so many people pulling up and when they see the came rs ,they get back in their cars and leave...also ur sensor will beep when activated to let u know someone or something is out their..but sensors do work..we chose to do it this way less expensive..

I think the most common is a magnet switch. You mount the magnet on the door or window and the switch on the frame. when the door opens, the magnet moves away from the switch causing it to short and set of the alarm.
