Nigel Gresley's Pacific A4 locomotives for the LNER were built at a time when streamlining to beat air resistance was limited to aeroplanes. Sure enough in 1936 the Mallard broke the record for a steam driven locomotive and still holds it. Go to the railway museum in York and look at the Mallard and the Japanese bullet train- Gresley was 50 years ahead of his time!

Verner Patton's S-bent fibre glass chairs. They were used in the film 2001 and they still look ahead today.
