The District of Columbia. DC is just that: a district, not a state. They have no voting representation in congress, no right to own most firearms, and from titme to time have been directly governed by Congress.
It simply the District in which the national capital is located.

People always think it means District of Columbia, but actually it stands for District of Columbus - named after christopher columbus. Its a little known fact... :) Hope this helps!
