Look, people should be free to wear what they want, but they also need to understand that the have elected to live in a country that is 71% white, and composed of a predominately christian population. The veil is not a religious garment, and there is nothing in the Koran about females needing to wear it for purely religious reason. It is a cultural item and opposed to religious, but one that is at odds with how we live our lives in the west.
It is, however, a very oppressive garment that undermines women, and it is in direct conflict with freedom of speech and the general freedom that living in the UK allows. Many of them chose to move and live in the UK and I can't quite see what aspects of living in the UK they seem to enjoy or embrace. They decide to live in their own areas, with specific faith schools where their children are taught in their native language - so the children are being raised as non-integrated citizens.
I am all for a multi-racial country, but they do have to be realistic about where they live and try to fit in. Try thinking how far you would get if you moved to their homelands and made similar demands about wanting your wife to be allowed to wear shorts and a tee-shirt in the street, your right to a local pub, the right to have your children taught in english, at a dedicated christian school. You wouldn't last 20 minutes before you were arrested or deported or worse.
An integrated society takes a certain amount of integration from both sides, and it is this fact that they seem to forget. They make it so much harder for themselves than it needs to be. They complain about our right to stand up and speak out against an item that we feel is contrary to our way of lives in the UK. If you think we are being too oppressive for your liking, try heading back to your homelands where your use of veils and secretive female circumcision will be welcomed.....or is there another reason that you don't want to move back?

She was quite happy to remove the veil for the interview to get the job in the first place.
Put simply, a veil IS divisive and WILL affect the education of the pupils. She is a teacher - there to teach. If she is incapable of fulfilling that requirement, then she has no place in the classroom, regardless whatever claims of discrimination she may wish to use.
Yes, it's discriminating - discriminating against poor teaching.

Well I think its a lot of rubbish what Jack Straw said about veils last week.He is arguing with the whole of the Muslim community and a few thousand years of history? I agree that when you see a lot of people coming towards you with veils on it can feel intimidating but its their religion. Whats going to happen now Indian men will have to take off their turbans? Christians will have to take off their Crucifixes? Get a grip!
