yes it's normal..hence the usual advice is not to have it on something which stops the heat coming out ..eg dont put it on a cushion ..its not a good idea to even put it on your lap. Put it on a flat hard surface.

If you leave it on a long time, it'll get hot.
I think mine overheated the other day because the whole screen went purple, so I turned it off for 10 minutes and then used it again.
If you have it on that much, I would reccomend getting one of those cooling plates. I don't know their proper name, but it's a square that clips into the bottom of your laptop and its got a fan in it or something.
They might not be as common these days, as when I got my first laptop, but still might help.

Laptops are for convenience and not be be used as a desktop type of computer. They over heat and you will not have a computer anymore. Turn it off when not in use. You can also get a mat that has a fan in it I think at Walmart. Best to get a desktop if you use the computer all day.

Yes. This is a common feature of laptops. The heat from the processor and disk have got to go somewhere.
If it's a problem, you can get a heat shield to stand it on. A metal tea-tray (upside down) is cheaper.

Yes. Make sure that there is always a 'space' between the bottom of the laptop & the surface you are working on (so dont put it on the duvet!).

You need to make sure are getting plenty of air circulating around the fan.
Try using a riser like the one from pcworld link listed bellow.

Yes, it's normal. NO, you should not let the bottom of your laptop get that hot, it's hard on your computer.

Yes.
Leave it on a hard surface, such as a desk, not a soft furnishing, such as a cushion.
Many PCs ( inc. Dell eg ) are liquid cooled because they get so hot.
It should not be too hot to touch.

yes is the short answer, if u are that concerned then find a surface with different levels to allow airflow beneath it. as long as the vents are clear and the fan still works it will all be fine
