Look at festivals around the world and in different religions - Deepavali / Diwali, Christmas, St Patrick's Day, Thaipusam Festival in Malaysia for Hindus, Wesak, Chinese New Year, Bastille Day, American Independence Day etc etc etc...

You are not alone. Every day is hard for me living amongst people who seemed to have accepted life in moden society without question. All I can remember is being so curious and sensitive of everything. Ive always known there is so much more to life than earning money. There is a whole universe and we barely even understand what we can't see yet. I feel for you so much because I know the pain of feeling so alone. I want to be part of the pack and it seems like you're right they just know you're different. I think this is a time when souls like ours need to find each other and regroup on how we got to this planet and what we're ment to do here. Never feel afraid to ask someone something so taboo or unusual because sometimes you find that others are unspoken about their feelings as well and are trying to wear a mask just like you. Life's such a beautiful thing and it makes me feel comfortated that there are other out there. From one conscious being to another I wish you luck and love.

An English Yorkshire Pudding. Some Italian Pasta. Some German Sausage. An Indian Samosa. A Chinese Sping roll. I had to do something similar myself earlier this year for my work. I took in enough of each food so that I could pass a plate ot titbit tasters around. They were all so busy eating no one noticed if my talk was any good or not.

Obvously you need to take something in that is visual but not expensive so some ideas.
1: Food from around the world.
2:Pictures of where they pray church temple etc
3:Music on tape of different songs from each culture that would wake class up and you could ask them what music is from which country.
4:Pictures of different costumes
5:An orniment ie chinese lanten prayer mat
Remeber if it is a teaching aid it has to be something that will capture attention and make students listen so the music one may be ideal as if you have to do it in front of other teaching students they may need livening up as you may have your turn last. (experience on that).

How about food from different parts of the world? Food usually says a lot about the living circumstances, climate, religion etc. of a country or region. If you don't want to bring food smples, just take pictures. I bet you would find many good pictures on the internet (for example flickr.com) and information about the food on wikipedia.

I guess you need to take in an item that sums up a culture. For example, I'd take in a big mac to sum up the American culture. Highly commercalised, corporate identity, mass production, unhealthy etc etc....

you could take sample of national dresses. but you have to be sure that you know about the countries you are talking about. it shouldnt be hard.
then you could talk about the difference of food habits in nations and their living style.
just choose a few nations you feel interested in and look their histories and current happenings up on the internet and you would do well

take in different example of nation dress. You can get picture of the net and blow them up using a scanner or photocopier.
For example African tribal gear, modern Chinese dress, skater clothes and punk etc.
